Entry 134 - Bye Petey.

Bye Petey.

Peter Jennings was arguably the best television journalist in the history of the profession—a consummate professional who knew that when it came to finding the truth, the question is just as important as the answer. Not to be overly sentimental about it, but really, his death signals the end of an era. Television is now that much more ridiculous and disingenuous for his passing.

Peter Jennings, 1938-2005

Thanks, Pete. ◊

I always liked his manner, but I never realized just how good a journalist he was until I saw One Day in September. In that documentary of the the hostage situation at the 1972 Munich Olympics, you see him out in the field covering a really tough event with grace and skill. As my wife pointed out, he's been the dominant news anchor our entire lives, or so it seems. He'll be missed.

Jennings was always my favorite, and to me, his death really is heartbreaking. I think a lot of student journalists looked up to him, and carried that with them. I know I did.

I reckon we should all find that quite heartening, MB. :)

I definitely agree. It was a sad day when i heard the news of his passing. Peter Jennings just embodied everything you wanted in a news journalist. There are no others like him and the news will not be the same without him.
